What is CCPA?
The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) is a landmark data privacy law that introduced new rights for California residents. The law provides residents with several privacy protections, including the right to access and delete personal information collected from them, opt-out of the sale of their personal information and the right to non-discrimination for exercising their CCPA rights.
Any business in California or around the world that collects and processes California residents’ personal information and meets certain thresholds, including revenue and volume of data processing, must comply with the CCPA. Why does CCPA matter?
The CCPA is the first of its kind in the United States. The goal is to give consumers more transparency and control over how their data, including credit card numbers, social security, age, and date of birth, is collected, stored, and used by certain businesses.
